Chestnut Tree Class

Teacher: Mrs Cowler

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Johnson

leaf Horse chestnutWelcome to Chestnut Tree Class!

In our class, we strive to inspire, motivate and challenge each and every class member to give their very best effort and to aim high. We help each other by working together as a team, supporting and encouraging.

Learning times tables is a key focus in our class so we practise these everyday through games, songs and tests. By the end of Year 4 all children should be confident in knowing their times tables up to 12 x 12.

We aim to enthuse children to be great writers. We learn to edit our work by making informed choices, just like professional writers!

We have two PE lessons each week on Tuesday and Thursday. These are either Dance, Athletics, Swimming, Gymnastics or Games. Children are encouraged to take part in football, netball, rounders and cross country competitions.

We are fortunate to have Mrs Barrie teaching our class on Thursday mornings.

We know that you will find Chestnut Tree Class a challenging, fun and rewarding class to be in and will prepare you well for Year 4 or Year 5.

Homework is best done regularly - a little each day. Learning skills and facts, such as reading and times tables, work best this way. This regularity encourages good homework habits which will pay dividends throughout your child's school years.

Reading - Children should read their school reading book at least 4 times every week. Please comment in this to say they have read and what you have focused on when discussing the book and asking them questions.

Times Tables - Please focus on learning your child's Mighty Multiples times table, together with divisions for that table and word problems e.g. Tom bought 24 apples which were in crates of 6. How many crates were there altogether? See Chestnut Class page on DbPrimary for extra ideas.

Learning Logs - See separate Learning Logs area under curriculum. These must be sent in by the due date or your child will be kept in to complete the work on the Friday it is due, in accordance with our homework policy.

Spellings - See below. These will be tested every Friday. Incorrect spellings will be highlighted and added to the following week.
