The EYFS curriculum is presented in a stable, rich and caring environment which enables every child to realise their full potential at their own pace.  This year we have a group of six year 1 children who will follow the Year 1 curriculum in an Early Years Setting to best suit ther needs.

In the EYFS we explore seven areas of learning and development.  These are:

  • Prime Areas: Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Specific Areas : Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design

The three prime areas should be developed first and are most essential for your child’s future learning and development in the other specific areas.  Your child is at the centre of everything we do and the curriculum is taught in ways that builds on each child’s unique curiosity and interests through engaging, planned, purposeful activities.   The children learn by exploring, being creative and playing in our indoor and outdoor classroom.

We spend lots of time getting to know your children, finding out what they know and what they enjoy doing to ensure they have a stimulating, exciting environment with plenty of learning opportunities that will challenge and extend their learning. Based on this, we plan engaging topics which are changed regularly. Some of these topics include: Winter, Bonfire Night, Giving Thanks and Growth and Liing things.

Phonics is taught using the highly effective ‘Letters and Sounds’. We aim to teach the children 3-4 new phonemes a week and aim to teach up to Phase 4 by the time they leave our Reception Class.

There are 26 letters of the alphabet but they make 44 sounds.

Which sounds would you like to hear spoken aloud and in example words?
