What is the Sports Premium?
The Government is providing substantial primary school sport funding for 2015-16. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Purpose of funding
Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Possible uses for the funding include:

  • hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
  • new or additional Change4Life sport clubs
  • paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
  • providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
  • buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport
  • providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs.

How will we be spending the Sports funding and who will benefit?
The Governors agree that the money must be used so that
all children benefit regardless of sporting ability
that the most able children are given the opportunity to compete in advanced tournaments;that staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development

Spending Plan for 2015-2016
The school has received £9,000 this academic year.
Increasing participation in sport and PE
School Clubs
Our school already offers a range of school clubs, accessed by children from Key Stages 1 and 2, however we do need to offer more after school clubs to meet the demand in key stages 1 and EYFS.

Providing opportunities for children to compete

We will continue our existing competitions such as cross country, sports hall Athletics, football and netball fixtures and tournaments, in partnership with the other primary schools within our cluster and the Hertford and Ware Sports Partnership. We will offer exit routes for our more gifted children, allowing them to compete against other children at a higher level. We feel it is important that children who are more able in sport are given the chance to participate against others of a similar ability and potential.

Professional development of staff
One of the key strands of the sports funding is to enhance the skills of our school staff so that the quality of PE and sport that is delivered will be enhanced. Qualified sports coaches will work alongside staff to deliver lessons and support planning and delivery of PE. Working in this way teacher confidence and expertise will develop and the school will benefit from high quality planning resource materials. Feedback from staff on the impact of training last year is that it still requires development. Tag Rugby and athletics were identified as areas that staff would like further training on.
